Cadillac Rotary Club

purchases supplies

for Haitian School

The Cadillac Rotary Club World Community Service donated $1,000.00 to the Hatte Bellanger Preschool in Liancourt, Haiti to purchase desks, chalkboards and books for a newly constructed school.     This money along with a $250.00 donation from the Houghton Lake Rotary Club was matched with a District Simplified Grant to make the total amount of funds donated to the new school to be $2,500.00.

The Hatte Bellanger school for 3, 4 and 5 year old children was in severe disrepair and the walls were caving in on the classroom.   The wood structure had deteriorated to a status where it was no longer safe to have the children inside the classroom.  With assistance from St. Agnes Parish in Marion, Michigan and Sacred Heart Church in Evart, Michigan, funds were raised to build a new cement block classroom.  The classroom has been completed and the funds from the local Rotary Clubs will help to furnish the building.

Fr. Alexis Robinson, pastor at the Liancourt Parish stated, "The education of the young children is our primary concern as it is the only way for them to be able to bring them out of the poverty cycle.".      Currently Liancourt Parish has grades K-8, and is adding grade 9 this fall.    The school is non-denominational and serves children from throughout the Liancourt area.
