District Governor Jane Millar

Visits Cadillac Rotary Club

On October 4, 2011, Rotary District 6290 Governor Jane Millar was the guest speaker at the Cadillac Rotary Club's noon meeting.

She spoke about the ideals and goals of Rotary and how she is traveling across the District during her tenure as district governor.    During the program, DG Millar mentioned that Rotarians give hope to their community and to the world.

One of the projects that DG Millar mentioned is the District Matching Grant with Bangladesh to provide cataract surgery for children in Bangladesh.  It is estimated that there are 1200 children in Bangladesh that are blind due to cataracts.   The surgery to correct the vision in one eye for each child is $40.00, but unfortunately with the current poverty in Bangladesh most of the parents cannot afford the surgery.   DG Millar has written a District Matching Grant Request that will total over $48,000 and pay for the surgeries of the children in Bangladesh.   At the conclusion of her speech, Cadillac Rotary Club President presented a check to DG Millar in the amount of $1,000 from the Cadillac Rotary Club to assist in meeting the matching funding needed for the grant.

After the Rotary luncheon, DG Millar also met with the Cadillac Rotary Club Board of Directors to discuss specific club goals.

Thank you, DG Jane Millar for visiting our Rotary Club.
